A little science behind the practices.

If you are curious about the “why” behind yoga + meditation, this brief explanation is for you. As a studio, our goal is to help each and every client feel better in their bodies. Mentally, physically. And our classes + programs are crafted to serve that. There are hundreds of benefits of these practices, but this is an email not a scientific journal, so we will just share a few of our FAVES.

Why YOGA? Think of your body's fascia as a giant meat suit. Tension, repetitive patterns, habitual movement impacts where in your fascia there is more or less tension. If the fascia of your feet is tight, that can run all the way up to the top of your skull. Your whole system can get out of whack.

Yoga seeks to balance this out. It's not just stretching tight muscles, or strengthening weak ones. It's like a domino effect - release some of the chronic tension in your physical body, your nervous system and brain will follow suit. The result is better a better functioning system.

Why is this important??

Best functioning system = less susceptibility to illness. Chronic stress has a negative impact on your GENES. (and yes, a million other results.) It goes beyond a "stress belly" and can literally impact the length or your life + how your genes turn on and off. We can't go live in a cave, so we all need practices to deal with and regulate this stress.

Here is where MEDITATION comes in..

Neuroplasticity, epigenetics .. and all that brain stuff. Meditation isn't just checking out and getting zen. It's a practice that helps you manage stress, face challenge and helps your brain continue to grow. A healthy brain into old age is something we should all strive for..

Yet meditation also impacts structures at the ends of all of our chromosomes. Stress frays these structures, making us more prone to aging on the cellular level, disease, etc... and therefore quality of life. This is an extreme simplification, but the science behind meditation is so cool. You can impact how your genes express based on the wellness practices you integrate into your life. All the more reason to build routines, learn a bit more + let 2021 you take wellness to the next level.
